Weld Inspection & Qualification
Witnessing and documentation of welding procedure and welder qualification, and inspection of production welds against the approved procedure.
Weld inspection covers the procedure as well as the product. The welding procedure is qualified and the welder tested against it before production starts, and production welds are then inspected against that qualified procedure rather than against a general expectation of good practice.
Typical scope: witnessing of procedure qualification tests; welder qualification and continuity records; visual inspection of fit-up, root and cap; monitoring of preheat, interpass temperature and consumable control; NDT coordination; weld record and repair tracking.
Part of Inspection & NDT.
